With our own salad leaf farms we really can claim a field to fork operation. We grow, wash, pack and distribute salad and watercress for retailer own brands and our own brand Steve’s Leaves.
We are looking for an Health, Safety & Environment Assistant. You will be ensure a positive, safe working culture through effective deployment of procedures, forums and management systems, whilst translating legislative requirements into practice advice for the UK Business Unit.
You would be joining us at a very exciting time as we are making a significant investment to upgrade our factory too.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Support the HSE Manager by ensuring site operations are executed in compliance with HSE regulatory requirements
- Provide competent advice on Health, Safety & Environment matters for the Salads business (and liaison with other Vitacress HSE and sustainability colleagues)
- Assist in developing and implementing HSE strategies and policies
- Work with all departments to ensure HSE compliance during audits and visits
- Work with line managers to control accidents, limit risks to the health of employees and visitors and limit the exposure of the company to health and safety risks
- Conduct accident and near miss investigations, including those relating to environmental incidents and advise on prevention
- Conduct and reviewing risk assessments and safe work systems
- Create and maintain HSE related ‘toolbox talks’
- Actively participate in the Health and Safety Committee meetings, updating members on HSE related actions, news and information
- Advise on HSE policy changes and proposals for necessary resolutions
- Assist in the provision of collating and submitting information for Personal Injury Claims
- Provide support to the internal training team and liaise this communication across the team
- Assist with training on HSE policies, processes and responsibilities
- Communicate with key stakeholders and contractors to promote health and safety
- Assist with the implementation of environmental strategies and targets
- Assist with the monitoring, analysis of and reporting of environmental performance and utilise data to highlight areas of further consideration, evaluation and intervention
- Complete administrative tasks as necessary
Experience, skills and competencies:
- Detailed understanding of COSHH and manual handling
- Experience within HSE compliance functions
- Experience of implementing HSE systems, policies
- Ability to deliver training and presentations
- Knowledge and experience of environmental permits and compliance
- Minimum NEBOSH certificate or equivalent
- Graduate member of IOSH
- A flexible, pro-active approach to work
- Confident to work off own initiative, taking ownership of the tasks, and seeing it out to completion
- Team player – though capable of working autonomously
- Adaptive and flexible to changing environments
- Level headed and diplomatic
- Target driven
- Good interpersonal skills

Salary: Up to £36,000.00 per year
