Senior Backend Engineer

We are looking for a fully remote Backend Engineer that can contribute to the development of our web applications.

Who you are

• You’re a software engineer with at least 7 years commercial experience
• You’re looking to develop your skills further as part of an in house team
• You have a genuine enthusiasm for software engineering and take no greater pleasure than finding the right solution to the problem at hand

What you will do

Develop web based systems

• Develop functionality for our own products, administration systems and ecommerce capabilities using modern frameworks
• Develop and maintain integrations with third party systems
• Develop our APIs

Work in a team environment

• You’ll work with other software engineers, designers, QAs and product managers
• You’ll communicate your ideas and plan your work
• You’ll peer review your colleagues work

What we need from you

• At least 7 years of commercial experience as a software engineer or equivalent
• In-depth knowledge of PHP8+
• Familiarity with modern PHP frameworks, preferably Symfony
• Solid understanding of OO programming concepts and patterns
• Familiarity with version control using Git and associated workflows
• Experience with TDD and unit testing
• A strong desire to learn and to contribute to the team’s work

Other skills you might have

• A degree in CS or equivalent is a plus
• Good understanding of HTML and CSS
• Familiarity with modern JS frameworks
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs
• Knowledge of relational databases
• Comfortable on the command line of *NIX machines
• Experience working in cross functional teams
• An eye for user behaviour and design
